Romans Field School

Building Success Together - to help us all become the best version of ourselves.

PSHE & Relationship Education

At Romans Field we want our children to understand themselves and become healthy, independent, and responsible members of society. Throughout our personal, social and health education and relationships and sex education lessons, children learn about their own emotions, the emotions of others and how they corelate. We adhere to guidance issued by the Secretary of State in 2020:

Through PSHE and RSE we aim to enable the children to:

  • Understand their own identity and how they fit well in the class, school, and global community;
  • Celebrate their own differences and the differences of others, including overt teaching about bullying in all forms;
  • Set their own goals and understand their aspirations for the future, who they want to become and what they would like to do for work and how this contributes to society;
  • Keep themselves healthy, by learning about lifestyle choices, sleep, nutrition, rest, and exercise and how these factors influence our self-esteem and confidence. This includes overt teaching about drugs and alcohol;
  • Understand friendships, family, and other relationships and how to navigate conflict resolution, bereavement, and loss;
  • Develop communication skills;
  • Cope positively with change, including changes to their body through puberty and give them an understanding of sexual development and the importance of health and hygiene.

Throughout our lessons we also aim to promote spiritual, moral, social, and cultural (SMSC) development and the British Values of Democracy, Rule of Law, Respect and Tolerance, Individual Liberty which are essential for children’s individual development, as well as the development of society as a whole.

Through our PSHE and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) provision children’s literacy skills will improve through access to a range of high-quality texts and resources which ensures that we are delivering a vocabulary rich PSHE and RSE curriculum. We also believe that children should have the opportunities to practice essential life-skills in a safe and supportive environment. Both  are required for the successful acquisition of knowledge and skills that will enable children to live a fulfilling life.
